This sounds like my common experience with US sauvignon blanc. Dry, high acidity, hardly any flavour, boring really.

Viognier is usually more lively and is often used for blending because of its strong character.

There is no notable acidity in this wine.

It's funny. Back in the early '90s I got dirty looks and scowls from a cellar master in California because I complemented a wine of his for its fruit flavours. He told me, most snootily, that I would not like that other expensive Mr. fancypants Chardonnay.
